About Pliés and Passion

The ballet world is challenging, yet profoundly rewarding. As a dancer myself, I have realized that guidance, support, and mentorship are crucial in navigating the stage when ballet becomes a serious pursuit. I created Pliés and Passion with the goal of providing dancers and families with holistic and unfiltered information about the ballet world. I hope young dancers embarking on their first audition season or summer intensive will utilize this resource when seeking information and advice. Additionally, I hope to provide parents and families with a resource to better understand the ballet world. I believe that my experience as a high school ballet dancer is valuable because of my recent experience attending auditions and summer intensives. Combining my personal experience with additional insights from master teachers and top professional dancers, Pliés and Passion strives to be a comprehensive and meaningful resource, that addresses your ballet-related questions and needs. I hope this resource proves valuable as you embark on your ballet journey.

Meet Ava Sokol

Ever since the age of 2, I have been captivated by the art of ballet. I vividly recall watching DVDs of The Royal Ballet and being mesmerized by the beauty, artistry, and musicality of the productions. At the age of 8, after years of attending classes at my local ballet school, I began training at the Los Angeles Ballet School. Performing in the company’s production of The Nutcracker for four consecutive years was a transformative experience that deepened my passion for ballet and inspired me to envision a professional career in the art form. At age 12, I began training at the Colburn School in downtown Los Angeles, which is where I am currently training in the afternoons and evenings, and attending high school during the day. Over the years I have attended various ballet intensives at Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, Miami City Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, and The Royal Danish Ballet. These experiences have been incredibly valuable in shaping me as both a technician and an artist, and have led me to a deeper understanding and appreciation of the global ballet community.
